As the house lights dimmed and the murmurs of anticipation hushed, the Samuel J. Friedman Theater pulsed with a din of transformation.
It was December 9, 2024. A palpable energy strobed through the audience, a collective breath held in unison.
As Lisa Nichols emerged from the shadows, poised and radiant, you could feel her intense radiance emanating from the stage.
In this instance, I knew this was going to be so much more than a Broadway show; it would be the catalyst of a movement.
Like a lot of old white dudes, I had no idea who Lisa Nichols was 2 years ago. Birds of a feather, I suppose. From the moment we met, though, I knew she was someone special. You know how some people have that aura about them. Lisa has that aura. I’m grateful to now call Lisa a personal friend.

Today, I hope to pique your curiosity about this radiant human being who was brought to this earth to encourage, inspire, and ignite transformational change in your life as she has mine.
Featured in the breakout film, The Secret, Lisa has shared the stage with all the motivational greats. Lisa Nichols became a renowned motivational speaker and best-selling author, dedicating her life to empowering others.
And her life was real—raw. From an awkward youth to a struggling single mother to a celebrated transformational coach is nothing short of remarkable.
Having gotten to know Lisa, I knew that bringing her story to Broadway in "When My Soul Speaks" was a venture I wanted to join.
So rarely do we have the opportunity to merge the worlds of personal development and live theater to tell a story so many people relate to.
As a professional storyteller, I want to be a part of epic stories of resilience and hope, not only as a means of contribution but as a way to learn and embrace the concepts and ideals that I ask my clients to bravely step into.
Embarking on this production was both exhilarating and challenging. One of the initial hurdles was translating Lisa's powerful life experiences into a theatrical format that would captivate a Broadway audience.
Collaborating closely with directors Nick Nanton and Riaz Patel, a narrative arc was crafted that felt both authentic and engaging. The process involved countless hours of script development, set design discussions, and rehearsals.
Working with Lisa is a masterclass in vulnerability and courage. She is so committed to sharing not just the triumphs but also the trials that shaped her. This vulnerability is the price she knew she had to pay to bond with her audience. As Lisa says, “It’s terriciting!” Both terrifying and exciting.
The profound trust and openness with the creative team formed the foundation of a world-class show for the ages. I can’t help but draw the very same correlation with my most successful clients.
One particularly rewarding moment was during a rehearsal when Lisa reenacted a scene from her past, confronting personal trauma. The raw emotion left the room in tears, a testament to her courage and the power of storytelling. It was actually that moment I realized the profound impact this production would have across the globe.
This experience certainly deepened my appreciation for the intricacies of Broadway productions. The mesmerizing cocktail of light, sound, music, words, and performance evokes such emotion. It really is a delicate dance. Each element had to align perfectly to create a transformative experience for the audience.
The premiere was a culmination of months of dedication. As the theater filled, there was a sense of unity among the attendees, a shared anticipation. Lisa's performance was nothing short of mesmerizing. She navigated through her life's pivotal moments with grace, humor, and unflinching vulnerability.
One segment that stood out was her recounting of an abusive relationship. The vulnerability she portrayed cut deep, not just with survivors but with anyone who has faced life’s overwhelming adversities. The audience's reactions ranged from tears to cheers, a testament to the universal truths shared by all.
The atmosphere—electric. Dotted with moments of collective laughter, tears, and introspective silence. It was evident that Lisa's story touched the hearts of many, inspiring reflections on personal journeys and the power of perseverance.
"When My Soul Speaks" was more than a theatrical production; it was a beacon of empowerment. I suspect we’ll break records for the number of African-American Producers, but I also suspect we’ll inspire others who see themselves through Lisa’s story.
Inspiration is great. It’s the calling card to transformation. But going to the doctor isn’t the cure. I believe Lisa’s message of strength and grit will help others find their own.
Lisa’s story is the catalyst for one soul to take action. Will it be yours?
"You are the designer of your destiny; you are the author of your story."
